At the end of a somewhat rustic country lane Ruggero is sparsely populated in the winter months when there are more sheep than people and is very quiet but is busy during the main summer months. Although it rains in the winter months the temperature rarely falls low enough to see frost or snow.

The holiday season is from June to September when there are several beach bars and pizzerias, a couple of nightclubs, 5-a-side football pitch, restaurants and a small hotel. There is a village shop open during the summer months. Fresh fruit and vegetables are available from the travelling greengrocer and there are some beachside stalls which sell goods.

There is a busy Tuesday street market in Sellia Marina and in Catanzaro Lido every Thursday.
