The location of La Pierre is, in many ways, ideal. In the summer, in particular, one could be deep in the country as the surrounding trees curtain off any view of other properties. The nearest neighbour is about 100 metres away on the other side of the valley containing the stream that forms the boundary between the two properties on the north side. A further 100 metres beyond this house is the Nantiat railway station where trains can be seen arriving and departing in the winter months but are obscured, both visually and audibly, by the trees for the greater part of the year.Extensive woods are found to the rear (east) and around to the south where they give way to open fields. A row of conifers that forms the western boundary hides the D711 which links Nantiat to the N147 for connections to Limoges and north towards Poitiers and then Paris. Nantiat is, as previously stated, a substantial commune which, in addition to the afore-mentioned ameneties, also boasts a Post Office, two banks, social services office, tax office, gendarmerie, library, bakeries, patisserie, butcher, hairdressers an hotel and two bar restaurants.

About 1km. from La Pierre, where the D711 crosses the N147, is the smaller commune of Chamboret which offers a Post Office, bakery, hairdresser, junior school and a popular bar-restaurant. A number of other restaurants can be discovered within a radius of 5-6kms.

At a distance of 10kms. lies the ancient and picturesque hilltop town of Bellac which, among all the services and ameneties one would expect in a provincial town, are three leading supermarkets, a bricolage (D.I.Y.), hotels and a wide range of shops and restaurants.Bellac also has a very fine open-air swimming pool complex.

The beaches of Lake Pardoux are within half an hours drive where swimming and various water sports are also available.
